Just an acoustic guitar and voice for the most part – though I couldn’t resist going a little bit larger at the end there. As is my wont, it must be said.
This song began quite a few years ago I think, and I always liked the slow pace and the wistful feel, with lyrics looking back wryly on memories and past efforts at music or life or love.
Oh yes indeed – it works somewhat a treat for the HALF-CENTURY, my friends! Looking back at a fair whack of music, are we not?
Anyhoo, I also dig the change at the end, when it soars into the searing heat of harder thoughts, things that hurt to remember, but ends up asking: “So what?”.
I find it harsh but strangely satisfying to finish such a pretty song so rudely. It seems more realistic. (Note: rude words, also.)
I hope it taps into a few of your own memories as well.
P.S. Also has one of my favourite lines from being a naughty kid – “Lliam, you’re too big for your boots!”. Love it.
