52 Songs is a project to do justice to a whole swag of songwriting – by recording one song every week for a whole year.
As vocalist and guitarist for Stray Birds, you’d see my rock n roll side on display, full tilt and loud. I love nothing more than getting blissfully wild and woolly with the band.
But in the half-filled scribblings of many notebook pages, it was beginning to show that there were songs and ideas and moods and loveliness that were all being left behind; lying fallow.
It became time for action. These babies needed to be let out.
And so, at the start of every week for 2013, a new song will be recorded, uploaded and sent out to the interwebs. Always written, performed, recorded and mixed at home, in entirety, by me.
Some will feel like demo recordings, others will feel like finished works; there’ll be different genres and experiments and trials. And tribulations, no doubt.
Some songs will be written that week, some maybe that very day, and others will be songs that have waited a while for this breath of life to be properly, finally born.
This is a project for music, for writing, for playing, for listening – for making real the things that matter most to any songwriter. Songs.
So please have a browse around as the year goes on, freely download the ones you like, and I dare you to try and enjoy it as much as I will.

Note: songs will not be professionally mastered here; rather, this is the output of a guy in a bedroom with a guitar, keyboard, mic, and a MacBook.
