We’re on the road.
I’ve had the verse of this song going on for a while now, and every time I came back to the song to re-draft it, I’d title it “Road Song”. Every time, no matter the changes.
It always felt like it was made to be heard as a car was gliding down a highway to who-knows-where, just as long as it was somewhere far away.
I was actually worried as I was recording it this week ’cause I suddenly realised “Oh no! It’s going to sound plain!”. Just too steady, too relaxed. It felt like it just cruised along. But after finishing it, I love the vibe and I can’t wait to play it next time I take a long drive down a highway.
It’s about getting away and choosing to jump off the freight train, just let the wide horizon embrace you instead.
Hope you’ve got a trip planned soon – give this tune a try. Sneaky book reference and all.
I hear the whisper of tyres on hot bitumen. Highway 1. A steamy, January day. The only decision is how far, how far.
gorgeous song! can imagine listening to it with the windows rolled down already….
