Song #31: ‘Ode’

Ode

I hate to say it two weeks in a row, but this week’s “song” is now also one of my favourites. (See? Not such a bad parent after all – they’re all my favourites…)

It’s also probably one of the most bloody gorgeous and lovely pieces of music that I have ever written. Flying in a hot air ballon? I imagine it feels something like this.

Is there a place you have been, that you go to, that you come back to, that is just the most beautiful and life-lifting spaces you can be? Where you feel wrapped up and somehow embraced, with those you love or even alone, happy til you could almost cry, and in love with what the world can be?

That’s what this one is about.

I suggest you give it a crack with some real volume and stick with it to the end, and think of that place that makes you love life – if only so you can say, “Did you hear the craziness that Lliam went for this week? The bloke has lost his shyte.”

It begins simply, with mellow trombones. Yes. It all goes up from there.
