Song #16: ‘Sixteen’

Mellow.

I unashamedly adore the vibe of this week’s song, it’s just so measured, so steady (slow!) and spacious.

And it’s founded on piano! The firsts just keep on coming in this project.

I’m also unashamedly not much chop on the ivories, but the piano part here is so laid back and simple that I figure I can get away with it.

The song is a mix of how we feel when we’re maybe just unhappy, or morose, or maybe in a deeper form of hopelessness whose grip can be truly hard to escape. It’s not about me directly – no subliminal messages. Just an effort to try to understand the gut-belting soul-hijacking hardships that many people go through.

Don’t worry – it’s not as sad as that sounds. And it also ends with hope – “And so I look up to blue sky; beautiful blue sky.”

I hope you like this as much as I do, I think it’s something different for me, but a softness worth wrapping yourself in, like warm sheets and a puffy, plump pillow.

P.S. Oh yeah – it’s not me – that’s a boys’ choir. Yes I did.

P.P.S. Complete accident, the title and corresponding week. But hey, let’s just go with it.
